When Size Matters

Could it be your business?

This morning I was out walking my dog. On the way home, I decided to stop by a local bakery to buy fresh bread.

Before I even reached the entrance, something else caught my attention.

The rubbish bin outside was overflowing. Paper bags, takeaway cups and food packaging had blown across the pavement. It didn't look as though anyone had cleaned up before opening. So I kept walking.

A few hundred metres further down the street I bought bread and a couple of surprisingly good frozen croissants from the local supermarket instead.

Not because their bread was necessarily better. Its not really. Just because I felt a bit disappointed.

On my way home, I went back

As I walked back with my shopping, I decided to step into the bakery. I politely mentioned that there was quite a lot of litter outside the shop.

The response was simply:

"Oh, okay."

A few moments later I saw a member of staff come outside with a plastic bag and pick up the litter. The immediate problem was solved.

But I couldn't help thinking that the real problem hadn't been.

It wasn't a litter problem

The more I thought about it, the more I realised this probably wasn't a cleaning issue at all.

It looked more like a planning issue.

Perhaps the bin simply wasn't large enough.

Perhaps it had been full since yesterday evening.

Perhaps it wasn't emptied early enough before customers arrived.

Or perhaps nobody had been given responsibility for checking the area before opening.

The staff reacted once they became aware of the problem.

But customers shouldn't have to point it out.

Every little observation tells a story

Customers don't know whether you're short-staffed.

They don't know who empties the bins.

They don't know whose responsibility it is.

They simply see what is in front of them.

And they make a judgement.

This morning, I did exactly that.

I didn't decide to avoid the bakery because of the bread.

I chose another business because of the experience before I even walked through the door.

Could this happen at your hotel?

Hotels face exactly the same challenge.

Overflowing bins.

Dirty entrances.

Ashtrays that should have been emptied hours ago.

Waste bags visible from guest areas.

None of these are expensive problems to solve.

But they immediately influence how guests perceive your hotel.

Sometimes the issue isn't poor housekeeping.

Sometimes it's simply that your waste management system no longer matches the number of guests using it.

Sometimes...

Size really does matter.

We help hotels see what they no longer notice

At We Help Hotels, we observe hotels through the eyes of a first-time guest.

Not to criticise.

Not to create another sustainability report.

But to identify the small operational details that quietly influence guest satisfaction, reputation and revenue.

Sometimes the solution is a different routine.

Sometimes it's relocating a waste station.

Sometimes it's increasing collection frequency.

And sometimes it's simply installing a larger waste bin because the existing one no longer fits the real demand.

These are the practical Waste Management Solutions that improve both guest experience and everyday operations.

We observe.

We rethink.

We design waste management solutions that match the real needs of your hotel.

Because sometimes a guest doesn't leave because of your service.

Sometimes they simply never walk through the door.
