From Salad Containers to Restaurant Chairs

How we helped Halifax Burgers transform a disposable material into furniture with a story

Every restaurant replaces equipment.

Sometimes because it wears out.
Sometimes because regulations require it.

At Halifax Burgers, a Danish restaurant chain - the plastic containers used for preparing and storing fresh vegetables has to be replaced regularly to comply with food safety regulations. Although they could no longer be used in the kitchen, the plastic itself still has value.

Instead of treating the containers as waste, we explored another question:

What if this material could remain part of the restaurant?

Working together, the containers were collected over time and recycled into durable plastic that was later used in the production of chairs for Halifax Burger's restaurant in Lyngby. Production took place in Denmark. 

The project demonstrates how materials can stay within the same business instead of leaving it as waste.

The chairs are not only functional—they also tell a story.

A story about responsible resource management, circular thinking and finding value where most people only see something that needs replacing.

Why this matters

Every hotel and restaurant generates materials that are removed as part of daily operations.

Plastic.
